Pierre
Gosselin
Director
Pierre Gosselin has degrees in medicine (Laval University, 1976)
and environmental health (University of California at Berkeley, 1982)
and has been active in Quebec's public health network for 20 years. He
is currently affiliated with the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec
(CHUQ), where he chaired the Quebec Environmental Health Committee from
1988 to 1998. The committee coordinates the activities of the province's
regional public health branches and provides consulting services to Quebec's
Department of Health and Social Services. Pierre Gosselin was also president
of the Quebec Union for Nature Conservation (Union québécoise pour la
conservation de la nature or UQCN) from 1990 to 1993, then ÉcoSommet from
1994 to 1996. He is a clinical assistant professor at Laval University's
Faculty of Medicine.
Pierre Gosselin has authored a number of books and articles both for
scientific audiences and the general public. His research interests and
professional endeavors have sought to link public health and environmental
issues-especially from an environmental monitoring perspective-with a
view to sustainable development. He has been active with the Health Professionals
Task Force of the International Joint Commission (Canada/United States),
the Scientific Advisory Committee on Environmental Monitoring of NAFTA's
Environmental Cooperation Commission (Canada/United States/Mexico), as
well as environmental monitoring initiatives in the Amazon basin. His
research focuses primarily on geomatics and health issues under the Canadian
GEOIDE Network of Centers of Excellence (see geographic information system

and on gastroenteritis monitoring.
