Pierre L. Auger
Director, Occupational Health

Dr. Auger graduated in medicine from Laval University in 1968. He then studied internal medicine and hematology in Québec City, Toronto, Paris and Hamilton (Ontario). He practiced hematology from 1972 to 1980. He began his career in occupational medicine and health in 1978. He has a master's degree in occupational medicine from the University of London (U.K.) obtained in 1981. He then worked for the Commission de la Santé et de la Sécurité du Travail du Québec (1981-1982), and then for the community health departments in Rimouski (1978-1984) and Quebec City (1984-1996). In 1989, he obtained his certification as specialist and fellow in occupational medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada..

He is currently practicing in the occupational health department of the CLSC Côte-des-Neiges in Montréal, in the Interuniversity Clinic in Occupational and Environmental Health (CISTE, of McGill University and the Université de Montréal). He is also working in the environmental service of the Québec City Public Health Department and works in occupational medicine in the occupational and environmental medicine clinic of CLSC Haute-Ville-des-Rivières, in Quebec City. He is an adjunct professor at Laval University and McGill University.

Dr. Auger is working on indoor air quality problems, particularly those of molds and environmental and occupational emergencies, and has published several articles on these subjects. He has taken part in several university training sessions at Laval University, Annaba University in Algeria, and is currently a member of the extended Chelyabinsk (Russia)-McGill training program in epidemiology and environment. He has been a consultant for Health Canada and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) in the writing of documents on the health effects of mold exposure.

Dr. Auger's interests are: health problems related to mold exposure, particularly the toxic aspects, immunotoxicology, responses to environmental and occupational emergencies and catastrophes, the practice of clinical occupational medicine covering a broad range of diseases (toxicology. pesticides, solvents, lung diseases, exposure to segmental and whole body vibrations, ionizing radiation, leukemia and blood diseases, and environment and work).
